In 2001, he successfully defended his title at the Heineken Classic, and broke an eighteen month streak without a win at the 2002 Smurfit European Open.
After an unspectacular 2004, Campbell became a Major winner by winning the 2005 US Open after holding off the challenge of world number One Tiger Woods. He confirmed his new status as a major player by finishing fifth at the British Open and seventh at the PGA Championship.
