In March 2007, Liang Wen-Chong finally emerged from the shadow of China golf trailblazer Zhang Lian-Wei with his breakthrough win at the Clariden Leu Singapore Masters at Laguna National Golf Club, becoming only the second Chinese golfer to win on the European Tour.
Nine months later, the gifted golfer from Zhongshan became the first player from China to win the coveted UBS Asian Tour Order of Merit title with winnings of US$532,590 from 19 events, during a banner year which saw him accumulate one win and eight top-ten finishes.
In August 2007, Liang made his debut in one of golf’s Majors by become the first golfer from China to play in the PGA Championship. In April 2008, he will become the second player from China, after Zhang, to play in the US Masters in Augusta National.
Liang is based at the Zhongshan Hot Spring Golf Club in Guangdong, famous for being the first course built in modern China over 20 years ago. The Chinese ace is currently one of seven players from Asia ranked in the top 100 of the official World Golf Rankings.
